SILVERFISH

WHAT & WHY?

Silverfish like to harbour in dark, quiet undisturbed areas, such as wardrobes, linen closets and roof voids.

They have been around for so long that they have developed immunity to many insecticides, so getting rid of them does require a well equipped professional.

Silverfish are referred to as fabric pests. They eat stored linen, clothing, books and paper products.

DID YOU KNOW?

Silverfish are prehistoric, they have inhabited the planet for over 400 million years, that's 100 million years before dinosaurs!

HOW TO MANAGE SILVERFISH

To minimise the likelihood of a silverfish infestation:

  • Store unused clothing and blankets in vacuum sealed bags

  • Store books and old newspapers in plastic, sealed crates

  • Refrain from using cardboard boxes for storing items

HOW CAN I TELL IF WE HAVE SILVERFISH?
  • Seeing silverfish behind curtains or in storage areas

  • Finding holes in stored fabrics, clothes or linen

  • Finding damage in stored books, papers or magazines

TREATMENT

Internally,  we will blow a fine powder through the roof void and apply a wet spray to all of your emptied wardrobes and linen closet.

You will need to empty out all infested wardrobes and linen closets and place contents away from the cupboards.

Once dry you will need to wipe wardrobe and linen closet shelving with a dry cloth before placing the items back into the cupboards.
